What is Nanotechnology?
Nano simply means really really small. A human hair is 50,000 nanometers. The skin of a soap bubble is several hundred nanometers. NANO Protect is typically 40 nanometers upwards.
How does it work?
Nanovations treatments form a super thin treatment on the applied surface. Upon drying, a tight chemical bond is created that resists water, oil or other liquid penetrating the surface. The bond is so thin that even the tiny holes and depressions on natural stone are bound.
How long does it take to NANO Protect a shower?
A general shower application takes approximately 90 minutes. The pre application process is the most time consuming and takes up most of that time.
How long does it take to Restore a shower?
This depends on the size of the shower and the severity of the water staining. As a guideline, a typical corner shower with moderate staining takes about 3 hours.
How long does it take to treat other surfaces such as concrete or my boat windows etc?
There are different drying periods depending on the surface to be treated. We are happy to discuss this with you in detail once we have an understanding of your needs.
Can you treat the grouting of my tiles?
Yes we can. However, grouting is not a stable substrate. It can be easily scratched and damaged. Once the surface is damaged the coating will also be damaged. However, the treatment on the tiles and pavers will still work perfectly.
How much can I expect to pay for the NANOTECHNOLOGY protection treatment?
Prices vary depending on the surface to be treated. Showers start from $115. Balustrades, external windows, concrete pavers, boat windows etc are priced on an individual basis as it depends on location, total area to be treated and if the surface requires restoration. How much does shower glass restoration cost?
Shower glass restoration starts from $85. A typical corner shower with light to moderate staining is around $150. The exact cost is dependent on how long it takes to restore the contaminated glass and how big the shower is. We will give you a free no obligation quote before any work is undertaken.
Is the treatment a waterproofing membrane?
No it does not function as a waterproofing membrane, particularly to areas where waterproofing is critical. However, it will minimize a large proportion of stains and water from penetrating the surface. The advantage is that the surface will look completely natural, as if there was no treatment on it.
Will accidental scrubbing and abrasion remove the coating?
The coating is only removed if the glass or substrate is scratched. Light occasional scrubbing will not remove the coating. Surfaces treated do not need harsh and abrasive cleaning.
Can the product be removed?
Once applied and dried, it is very difficult to remove. Its durability means that it requires considerable effort and chemicals before it can be removed completely. Like everything, it will be subject to wear and tear, and gradually be removed.
Does this mean I don’t have to clean coated surfaces any more?
It's LOW maintenance, not NO maintenance. This means that cleaning times and cycles are reduced by up to 90%. The little remaining soap scum build-up, dirt and other contaminants on treated surfaces are easily cleaned off. No more need for dangerous cleaning chemical fumes and abrasive scrubs.
My treated glass surface has stopped working within the month! What’s wrong?
The most common reason is that a layer of dirt may have deposited on the surface. This prevents the coating from dealing with the water and oil. A simple rinse and wipe with a micro-fibre cloth will restore the full functionality of the coating. Remember, low maintenance is not NO maintenance.
Will UV light degrade the product?
No. Tests have shown that the product does not degrade in UV light.
How safe are your products?
All Nanovations products that we use are non-toxic and food safe. They will not harm your body or the environment.
What do you mean by food safe?
This means the cured product is non toxic. You can eat the food directly off treated surfaces and not be ill.
Can NANO Protect Concrete be water blasted off?
No, the water blast will not remove the treatment. However, the treatment will come off if the water blasting damages the substrate. A simple re-treatment of the affected area is all that is required.
What surfaces cannot be treated?
Nano Protect is extremely strong and stable. However, the adhesion is dependent upon the stability of the substrate applied. We take the utmost care in preparing the surface during our pre-application process to remove all surface contaminants. If, however, the surface is damaged or flakes off, the coating will be taken off as well. As such, we can coat but do not warranty Nanovations products for any powdery (e.g. freshly laid concrete) or flaky (e.g. slate) surfaces. This will be made known to the client prior to application
